In 1999, Jahmad was a Washington State University student who believed learning should make a campus harder to intimidate. When a racist slur was burned across WSU walls, it revealed how fast institutions could soften the truth and ask the harmed to be patient. Jahmad rejected that script. Near midnight, he gathered students inside Holland Library and led a disciplined protest, speaking through a megaphone about memory, accountability, and the right to stay human inside hostile systems.

As the crowd answered him, lightning hit the library’s copper roof and tore through the megaphone in his hands.

The strike carved living glyphs into his skin and flooded him with impossible understanding. He saw culture as source code: ritual, language, craft, and inherited knowledge operating like structure beneath everyday life. Professors hid him while his body stabilized, but shelter could not erase what he had learned. He had seen polite abandonment up close. Real protection had to be built, not begged for. So he left the academic orbit that failed him and returned to Tacoma, where he became Soul Shaper.

There he trained across disciplines, learned to trade mastery the way others change tools, and gave his power to helping communities and heroes move through rupture without letting villains define the terms of change.

Abilities

Service
Primary

Change

Soul Shaper rewrites one active mastery into another, trading his current discipline for a different one in seconds. He can shift from tactician to healer, linguist, fighter, or engineer with expert control. He cannot hold full masteries at once, and rushed swaps cost him precision.

Service
Secondary

Transition

Transition lets Soul Shaper alter conditions in a failing situation so the landing is less brutal than it should be. He can slow spread, blunt collapse, and make enemy abilities lose efficiency near him. It cannot erase harm, and larger crises force rougher, less exact changes.

Service
Ultimate

Culture Shift

Culture Shift extends Soul Shaper’s influence across a region, aligning allied heroes with their clearest roles. Teams move with sharper purpose, and most villains crack under the coordination. He saves it for turning points because the range and mental strain drain him fast.

Service

At Holland Library, Jahmad refuses to let outrage break into vandalism. Standing on a desk with a megaphone, he names the slur on the walls for what it is and calls for witness, memory, and disciplined action. He turns a frightened crowd into one body that knows both its pain and its purpose. When lightning answers the building, the strike feels like judgment: the world marking a man who had already chosen to stand between injury and silence.

Years after leaving WSU, Soul Shaper returns when a villain turns a campus forum into chaos. Among the trapped is an administrator who once preached patience while students carried the wound. Soul Shaper has a chance to let consequence teach its lesson. Instead, he triggers Transition, slowing the collapse, weakening the villain’s control, and pulling survivors out. He saves the people who failed him and loses the capture, proving that his ethics outrank his appetite for resentment.

Service

When coordinated villains strike Tacoma and the surrounding region at once, the hero response begins to split apart. Instead of trying to cover every gap himself, Soul Shaper releases Culture Shift. The field reorganizes around excellence, and allies suddenly move in the roles they were built to hold. Victory comes through clean assignments and shared timing, but the cost is real: his glyphs dim for weeks, and he accepts that leadership means creating lanes others can own, not becoming every lane himself.
