As the crowd answered him, lightning struck the library's copper roof and surged through the megaphone in his hands.
The blast etched living glyphs into his skin and flooded him with impossible comprehension. He saw culture as source code: ritual, language, craft, and inherited knowledge behaving like architecture beneath life. Professors hid him while his body stabilized, but shelter did not erase what he had learned. He had tasted polite abandonment. Real protection had to be built, not requested.
