In the 2006 “100-Year Storm,” floodwaters tore through the Puyallup watershed, endangering thousands. AmeriCorps volunteer Ryan rushed to strengthen levees until a falling cedar threw him into toxic runoff. A lightning strike from a substation explosion hit at that moment, fusing his service pin, gavel, and cedar roots into a living energy core tied to his heartbeat.

Ryan releases sound waves that reset stress surges across a city block. Fear eases, talks align, and for three minutes people find common ground. The effect cannot create agreement, only reveal it. Each wave pushes sorrow and strain into his own body, leaving him to carry the weight after use.
