When does efficiency become the enemy of creativity? We sat down with a local musician to navigate the tension between algorithmic speed and the value of human effort.
Welcome back to Pulse Check, our ongoing conversation with the community. We are sitting down with the builders, creators, and small business owners who make our neighborhoods thrive to ask one simple question: How is this AI disruption really affecting you?
This week, we spoke with Izzy. By day, she is the manager of Richland Hub, a community-focused African specialty coffee shop in downtown Vancouver. By night, she is a musician. She is, in her own words, a "people person." Her entire ecosystem revolves around the "people business"—managing a bustling cafe, networking as an artist, and fostering genuine human connection.
So, when we asked her about AI, she didn't express the typical dystopian fear of the technology itself. Instead, she voiced a specific "hesitancy" regarding what it might do to the perceived value of human effort.
